Hi all,
I recently responded to a member and because of his response to me... I thought that I should share my thoughts with everyone...
A lot of people find this board because they are searching for answers... That's how I found it.
One of life's coincidences... lol  THERE ARE NO COINCIDENCES!!!
Many people are thinking about or want to learn Reiki but they don't know what to expect...
Expect nothing and embrace all that you receive.
Trust!
If you are saying "should I" then the answer is probably yes
We all have healing abilities...
Are you ready to do Reiki?
Well... you were searching Reiki... you found this website where you can receive support and attunements... you are reading this... I believe that if you were guided to search and to read this then yes, you are ready... THERE ARE NO COINCIDENCES!!!
If you are sending prayers and Love, which comes from the heart, that makes me think that you probably are ready to become attuned and you should embrace your journey...
Take the next step... If you have the desire, you are ready!
How do you become attuned?
Go on the Reiki Board for the Usui Level 1 attunement...

Post your request to receive this attunement (It doesn't matter if you were somehow attuned before)
There are wonderful Masters that will answer your request. They may be busy at that moment but someone will answer. Maybe me, when I feel confident that I am ready to send attunements distantly...
What can I expect from the attunement?
Don't expect anything... JUST EMBRACE IT!
Don't worry about what you feel... Everyone's experience is different and unique... some people see things others do not, some feel strong emotions others do not... I cried from emotions releasing, my friend saw colors, my other friend felt noting but relaxed... everyone is different and what you feel, see or hear is unique and for you!
Read the Manuel that they send you... Reading about chakras is also helpful.
prepare yourself as you feel in your heart you should.
It is a special occasion just like a graduation a wedding or a birth!!! Take the time to enjoy it.
Maybe you will want to shower or take a relaxing bath, maybe with some sea salts and soft music... imagine the water washing away all of the negative energies that may be with you.
Get set however you feel you should... maybe the manuel gave you a suggestion and you feel that is right, maybe you feel you should lay down... whatever, it is fine.
If you feel like playing some meditative music... do so
Light candles if that makes you feel more connected (Be careful, sometimes people fall asleep during an attunement if laying down... burning candles need attention)
Set yourself however you feel and meditate...
Some people have a hard time meditating... you can't quite your mind totally... but you can replace your busy thoughts with relaxing ones... I like to think "Light received" on my breathe and "Love returned" when I exhale and I concentrate on my breath
My point is, follow your heart and your instincts... Everyone is different.
Call down your attunement with no expectations and just relax and enjoy it
After your attunement
Next... start to use Reiki on yourself and others...
You may feel some new things after an attunement... if you have a question ask the Master giving the attunement or ask one of the moderators on the boards... they can answer you.
When I was attuned to Reiki 1... I was very very thirsty for days and relaxed and some other things...
BUT, I also had another sensation that I was too embarrassed, at that time, to ask anyone about... 
My libido was working overtime... I developed very strong sexual urges, I guess in plain English one would say that I was 'horny'... not that I minded too much... but I was embarrassed to ask anyone... Finally, one of my friends that received attunement the same day I did, told me that she was embarrassed to tell me this, but after after our other friend that was attuned confided in her that she felt these feeling... she asked me if I was having sexual feelings because she also had been feeling this way... I laughed because all 3 of us had the same reaction and were all too embarrassed to talk to each other, we suffered in silence... we were concerned for a long time about the same thing and we finally asked the Master who told us... "Don't Worry" nothing is wrong, everyone has different experiences and anything is possible... It's all good...
Does that mean you will feel that way... (Men all hoping yes  ) maybe... maybe not, everyone is different!
So, if you have a question ask, if you feel embarrassed, send a personal message. Nothing is silly or stupid.
When you give a Reiki Treatment
Don't worry that you may not be doing it right, trust you heart and your guides to lead you in the right direction... When we start we are often worried that it may not work... what if we do it wrong, what if people think I'm crazy... There is no wrong way if you are doing Reiki
(*** NOTE: always respect the recipient, do not touch people who don't want to be touched, follow the Reiki ethics... and no naked Reiki on friends and strangers! lol) 
Sometimes you may read something in the Manuel and when you actually perform Reiki, you "KNOW" that you should do it a little different than what you read... Do it the way that you "Know" and feel you are being guided... Spirit knows... Just trust!
Do not worry, there is no wrong way when your intention is pure... you may be drawn to start at the heart rather then the head... maybe you feel that hands on is not right except at certain spots, maybe you will feel like your hands are being pulled to move in different shapes and motions... whatever it is, just go with it, it's the right way for you at that moment, it's what the other person needs...
Yes, we feel a little silly sometimes when we feel drawn to move our hands in different fashions, the receipient should be relaxed and have their eyes closed so don't worry about feeling silly...
Maybe you get an image that you think they are also seeing... ask them after the session if they were thinking about this or saw it... you may be surprised... sometimes you may hear a message, share it with them to see if it means something... sometimes you may feel that they need to see a doctor... don't alarm them but urge them to get a check up, especially if they complained about the area you got the feeling in..
What did you feel?
Notice all the sensations you have... be aware of what you feel, think, hear, see...
ask them for their feed back, what do they feel, did they visualize anything, do they feel warmth, coolness, tingling... do they feel relaxed, feedback helps you build confidence... Did they get any messages?
I once saw a woman's face, she was up in my face and wouldn't go away... after the session I told the girl and she confirmed that she was thinking about her grandmother and that she should visit her mother, whom she hadn't seen in months... I told her this woman wanted to make her presence known... she said I described her Grandmother and because I told her that I saw her, the next day she went to visit her mother... who was in need of help!
Another time a song kept coming in my head...
It was a very silly children's song... I thought it was silly and was embarrassed to ask... but I told the man I was hearing this song and asked if it meant anything to him... He started to cry and thanked me... He confirmed that his mother use to sing it to him when he was scared and he cried because during the session he was thinking of his mother and wondering if she could hear him, if she was with him...
So, sometimes we get messages we don't understand but the person receiving Reiki may understand what it means... Talk with them... sometimes we may feel the need to take some extra time to talk with them... I think in these cases we are being guided to act like a spiritual adviser, we have been guided to help them with something and if you are doing this from the heart you will want to help them if they want to talk. Don't worry about what to say, tell them what you felt and listen... Don't tell them what to do... give your impressions and maybe relate your own experiences to them.
Helping others is the most rewarding thing that you can do... it makes you feel good!
Trust in the healing energies, the universe and yourself and just go for it...
What's next
After you do Reiki 1 for a little while request Usui Level 2...
It is very beneficial to be able to use the distance symbol to send Reiki to those that need it...
Distance Reiki is very beneficial for me... I am an empath and can identify people who are need of healings and am able to send Distance reiki to them... No, I don't need to ask them if they want it first...
I send it to their higher conscious with the intent that they accept the healing energy if it is for their good... they can reject it if they choose... But why would anyone's higher self reject positive energy if they need it... It is not a violation to offer it and send it when you know someone needs it...
We send distance Reiki to those in places where there are natural disasters and we don't ask permission first... So I believe that it is always acceptable to offer Reiki either verbally or through thought (telepathically) and intent to anyone we feel may benefit from it.
Of course you will probably want to go on and receive the Master attumement but if you do not want to that is fine... I do however suggest that you take levels 1 and 2.
Also, if you want to do attunements in person because that will make you more comfortable or that feels right for you... then do that, find a Reiki Master in your area or ask if anyone here knows a Master in your area... Do what you feel comfortable with... I have had both in person and distance attunements and I know that energy travels and have had positive experience with both types.
It's up to you, do either... do both, do what you feel is right for you!

someone is able to answer your question. This board attracts people who all have the same belief, Reiki is meant to share and everyone supports each other!
Hope it makes sense to you, I hope that I may have answered some common questions in an simple way that makes sense and I hope that I have helped at least one person!
As I said, these are my thoughts and beliefs, some others may not agree with everything I said and that is ok... Everyone is unique and different.
