Both Reiki and Pranic Healing are holistic healing methods. Both the healing methods have been derived from ancient Indian systems and have been tested, experienced and recognized by the world. Both are effective in healing and are treated as alternative medicines that are complementary to traditional medicine.

Pranic Healing was practiced by the rishis of Himalayas in India and was practiced in China too. Relatively Reiki has been a recent discovery. Dr. Mikao Usui rediscovered Reiki whereas Master. Choa Kok Sui from Philippines founded Pranic Healing.

The basic principle underlying both the fields is the same, that is, healing the aura (energy field), surrounding the body. Reiki heals the aura with the help of certain symbols, visualization, chanting of sacred words and laying of hands. Pranic Healing does the same by channeling and harmonizing the prana- the life force energy. Both believe in removing the negative energy (diseased energy) from the body and mind.

Both the methods believe in self- healing capacity of the body. There is no physical contact in pranic healing whereas; it is very much the case with Reiki in the first level. In the practice of advanced level of Reiki, physical touch is not necessary.

Both believe in the presence of astral body projected 4-5’’ from the physical body. This energy field distributes the healing energy to the chakras and they in turn to the glands. Both the methods rectify the imbalances in the body, penetrating the energy field

REIKI and PRANIC HEALING are both energy healing modalities.

THIS ARTICLE EXPLAINS THE SIMILARITIES & DIFFERENCES

REIKI is a very good healing modality that has helped many people, primarily through teaching those with little or no healing experience to access healing energies to help themselves and their loved ones. According to the REIKI Masters who have attended PRANIC HEALING classes (over 500 REIKI Masters have attended PRANIC HEALING classes since 1990 in the United States alone), as well as our own observations as a teachers and healers, here are some of the major differences between PRANIC HEALING and REIKI :

1. PRANIC HEALING is a complete non touch system of healing. REIKI practitioners touch the body most of the time, but they also employ some non-touch techniques.

2. PRANIC HEALING teaches its students to "scan," or actually feel the aura, to assess areas of energetic depletion and congestion, or stagnation, which helps identify problem areas that need healing. REIKI doesn't use any energy assessment technique but relies on the intuition of the practitioner.

3. PRANIC HEALING employs a manual cleansing technique called "sweeping" to remove blockages and stagnant energies before giving fresh energy to the patient; REIKI has no comparable technique. PRANIC HEALING believes cleansing is critical to the healing process because dis¬eased energies and negative emotions have to be first removed before energizing the body to or they may manifest physically - and sometimes dramatically - through vomiting, loose bowel movement, a rash, a flu or other symptoms. Such expelling is often labeled as a "detoxification," however, it is quite uncomfortable and can be prevented with proper cleansing. In fact, cleansing alone often allows the body to quickly heal itself by permitting fresh energy to penetrate deeper into the body to be utilized as healing fuel.

4. PRANIC HEALING employs a "cookbook" approach to healing. According to thousands of case reports gathered by the founder of PRANIC HEALING, Grandmaster Choa Kok Sui, every ailment produces a unique set of energy patterns that can be identified in the energy body's 11 major chakras and numerous meridians. REIKI has essentially one energy technique - facilitating the flow of REIKI energy into whatever area needs healing - to address all health problems. PRANIC HEALING, by contrast, uses specific energetic routines of cleansing and energizing that are matched to the specific patterns of energetic deficiencies caused by a particular illness. PRANIC HEALING, thus, offers a quicker, more targeted and more effective system of healing.

5. PRANIC HEALING teaches its practitioners to draw energy directly from the sun, air, ground and other spiritual sources and then project this prana into their subjects' auras. REIKI practitioners have to be "initiated" by a REIKI Master and given "sym¬bols" to access the healing energies. It's similar to having to obtain a "password." PRANIC HEALING employs simple breathing and visualization exercises that allow anyone to heal immediately with minimal instruction.

6. PRANIC HEALING includes a practice called "energetic hygiene" that is rarely found in any healing modality, including REIKI. Energetic hygiene is a set of practices breathing, dietary recommendations and other cleansing routines - that are designed to keep your personal energy tank clean and full. REIKI Masters attending PRANIC HEALING classes agree that energetic hygiene is one of the greatest benefits of the class, particularly the techniques that enable them to cleanse themselves of contaminating energy they pick up from clients and how to prevent subjects or negative people from draining their life force. This is particularly important for not only REIKI practitioners but also other health care providers because these people frequently experience the pain or the ailment of their subjects become drained and tired after healing someone.

7. PRANIC HEALING employs the use of color energies that dramatically accelerate the body's innate healing abilities. In fact, many REIKI Masters often say that if they have a subject who wants immediate relief or rapid healing they use PRANIC HEALING particularly, the colored pranic techniques. But, if they have a subject who simply wants a relaxing and soothing session, they use REIKI.

In summary, both PRANIC HEALING and REIKI are excellent healing modalities and help alleviate pain and suffering. However, PRANIC HEALING gives you the tools to produce faster and more immediate results while "immunizing" you against contamination from the people you are healing. PRANIC HEALING complements any and all healing modalities.

We always tell everyone, whatever your healing technique - shamanism, Native American techniques, Chinese chi kung, REIKI, massage therapy, chiropractic, Christian laying on of hands and even traditional orthodox medicine - PRANIC HEALING will complement and enhance it. We are here together to help create health and happiness for all.

With Gratitude to Pranic Healing Master Stephen Co for this comparison

Reiki was discovered by Dr. Usui in the 1800s and Pranic Healing was re-worked by Master Choa Kok Sui in the late 1980s that the ordinary people may receive the teaching. The above is just a general comparison of the 2 methods of energy healing. As most will agree that Reiki has changed through the years. However, do note that there are those who will hold true to traditional Reiki and not agreeing with the changes and new modalities. Ultimately, one has to listen to themselves if Reiki or Pranic Healing is for them. I would not say one is better than the other. It is just different.

Many Blessings

Thanks for posting this, Xian. I began with something more like the pranik, which was an Intuitive way of working that required no visible, or physical contact; but didn't exclude it if someone was comforatable with and needed a hug to begin, or a hand placed close to them, or to hold a hand. Everything that I learned about Healing works very comfortably with this. But, over time, learning all the different methods possible to find and learn from, and the Shamanism, fine-tuned and honed, and expanded so far beyond the beginnings..........Still learning, always! Beautiful comparison of the two.........

Hi Xian,

thank you for explaining the difference - although I cannot really feel the difference  Wink.

For example ... doing distant healing ... I sometimes feel connected immediatly without using any symbol but just visualizing the person. And many times during a distant session, I do much more, than just channeling Reiki ... I work with colours or flames or just light. Anyway - this is more than Reiki ... is this an aspect of Prana Healing?

I think, by getting experienced, the many healing tecniques come together at one certain point ... the divine source.

Love

hi Petra

I believe thatReiki has remained constant. however, the practitioners have evolved through the years. As you mentioned, we work with more than just traditional Reiki. We work with colors, chakras, angels, ethereals and much more. it's ok that some may not want to work with other systems.

For me personally, i see it in a point of view of christianity, where there are many denominations..but all look towards the same God/source, however they approach for each denomination is different. Guess that is the same with Reiki. There are may ways we can access the Universal Life Force, and Reiki is one of the ways.

it is how we learn each modality, and integrate it to our healing practice. It is also a matter of personal preferences. Even though i have many modalities, i work most with Reiki, Shamballa & Mahatma energies...also greatly with Buddha and the bodhisatvas.

There is no right or wrong modalities...just need to listen to your heart.

No one said that Reiki must be hands on, it just so happened it started off like that, but a long the way it is discovered that Distant healings and attunements are just as effective. 40 years ago, no one thought we can drive an automatic car, or fly thousands of miles.

We should not limit what Reiki can do, but allow What Reiki will do.

Prana(sanskrit), ki(japanese), qi/chi(chinese)), universal life force(english) energy are all the same. Just that they are mentioned in different languages Smiley

For me Reiki always has been at first the way to become what we really are, not only beeing the healing method. So I think, that Pranic Healing is for our health on the earth, to our physic body and Reiki helps our mind to take those steps, what it needs, to connect our real higher self, which begins to teach us.  Smiley
