EMMC Offers Reiki To Patients

BANGOR (NEWS CENTER) -- Eastern Maine Medical Center is offering a new kind of treatment to its patients. It's called Reiki.
Reiki is a Japanese healing treatment in which practitioners channel energy in the room through their hands and into the part of the patient's body that hurts.

Nancy Lincoln had never had Reiki treatments before she arrived at EMMC in March. She said the treatments she has had since have helped her heal.

"To me, it's just very soothing," she said. "Very pacifying for me."

Her family notices a difference, saying it gives her peace with her emotions and helps her relax.

There are currently 23 volunteers who come to the hospital and offer their services for free. There's at least one practitioner at the hospital every day.
